Graphic designer, Tahiti Starship, has admired various alphabets, cultures and the ocean’s waves while
traveling the world over. Having now settled in Brooklyn, NY, she successfully balances time in the
studio with time in the playground.

Her designs are an extension of bold imaginative play that doesn’t condescend to commercial ideas about
children’s newly forming aesthetics; she combines contemporary design elements with earthbound inspiration
to create inspired, original work.
"Whimsically clever"
Having always been interested in child language development, she never encountered a subject as fascinating as her son. Her new inspiration led her to make her first piece for children: an alphabet poster that he would not grow tired of; in fact, it would grow with him. As with most babies, he was attracted to bold graphic shapes and contrasting colors. Later, he learned to love the ritual of singing the ABC’s before bedtime. By combining her loves with his, her work began to offer him meanings and surprises associated with many of the letter/forms. Details that he will continue to discover and delight in.
