DIY wood panel wall – Adding stucco to a wooden wall will add beauty and weather protection. Plus it can increase the value of your home. Follow these steps to stucco a wall.
Prepare the wall. All loose material must be removed from the area where stucco will be applied. Use shovel to dig a small dike next to the DIY wood panel wall about six inches deep. Install wire ribs that have a paper backer. This wire rib is designed for stucco applications. It has tar board (looks like roofing paper) glued to the back of the rib. Use tin snips to cut ribs to size. Place the pieces against the wall. The paper goes inside. Use a staple gun or nails to attach it.
Install stitching lathe trim pieces. These include corners, ribbon trim and stucco stops. Install them in the same way as the rib. Mix mortar. Combine mortar and sand in a bucket or mixer. Put the water. Mix with a drill and shovel or use a mortar drummer. Stir for five minutes. You want the mixture to be the consistency of toothpaste. Slide the masonry mortar into a wire rib with a fleece pouch. Use a big press. Start at the bottom of the ditch and work up. Continue to lay the mortar until it is 1/2 inch thick. Use a straight edge to level the DIY wood panel wall. Tip so the edge plows over the top. Remove all high points. Use the surplus to fill in some low points. Use a hard brush to spray mortar on the wall. Apply the spray to match the patterns you want.
