Chimney cap with spark arrestor – A chimney cap may be just the ticket if you want to keep water from entering your chimney, which can cause damage to your flue pipe and combustion chamber. A chimney cap also prevents birds and other animals from entering the flue pipe. The chimney caps also prevent downdrafts and can be used in the flue tube that is used to expel fumes from burning wood, coal, gas or oil. Some chimney caps may also have a spark arrester installed to keep embers from wood fires from landing on your roof or surrounding vegetation. The chimney cap must be securely attached to the chimney to keep the wind from blowing it.
